I use my Nokia N95 to do a lot of web browsing  on the go but I get reallly ticked off by sites which don’t support mobile web browsers. Most sites could easily support Mobile Web Browsers through server-side detection and a bit of CSS. Sites like OSNews.com and Lifehacker.com both detect my Nokia and display in a Mobile friendly format (240×320) however other sites I visit regularly (Linux.com, Planet Ubuntu, Planet Ubuntu UK, Ubuntu Weblogs and any Wordpress blog) all assume you’re using a regular web-browser and display oversized on my Nokia. Unfortunately having said that I’m guilty of non-mobile firendlieness here on AlanDoyle.com BUT I am working on modifying my theme to detect and support mobile web-browsers. End Rant.

Update: I’ve now updated the site to be mobile friendly.

This is just a quick hello to all the readers of Planet Ubuntu UK as I’ve just noticed that I’ve been added to the feed when one of my posts about FreeNX popped up yesterday.

I’m in the process of getting myself more involved in the Community after being on the sidelines for the past 3 years. The spirit of Community within Ubuntu is amazing and now that I’m running Ubuntu as my only OS I’m really starting to appreciate all the hard work the guys and girls at Canonical and the Ubuntu Community at large have put in to Ubuntu, it’s a passion I can relate to.

So well yes, hello again Ubuntu UK people. It’s nice to be here and I hope I can contribute to this awesome Community.
